Survival can depend on the smallest of things, and that’s exactly how A Dark Room begins.

You start with little more to worry about than keeping a fire alive, foraging for wood, and building basic shelter. Not long after that, however, and you’ll find yourself managing an ever growing community of survivors, just like yourself. Sometimes, vagabonds will come through to trade before heading out into the wilderness once more. Other times, villagers will meet their ends at the claws of rampaging beasts.

Persevere, and you'll find a larger world opened up before you.

Exploring is fun in a roguelike kind of way. It's dangerous out there and you can only go so far before you run out of food or water. Well-planned expeditions can reap great rewards in the form of better resources and, therefore, better gear.

It's also your only means of learning more about the game world. What's going on beyond the village? Who else is out there? It's these kinds of questions that will drive you forward as you try to balance your resources and keep your explorers alive.

Definitely not a bad way to pass the time. Check it out here.

P.S. It's a lot more fun to play along to some kind of soundtrack. Anything tense or eerie is good; I'm playing along to the Half-Life 2 soundtrack.
